👋 Hello!
This is issue #18 of Taskflow Tuesday, where I share 3 things that can help you to get digitally organized so that you can spend more time on what truly matters.
📅 1. My Favorite Time Management Method
Time blocking consistently keeps me on track throughout my day and I get more done whenever I utilize this time management method.
When I first started time blocking, I was blown away by how much more productive I was.
Time blocking divides your day into dedicated task blocks.
Prioritize your tasks before scheduling them into your day.
Create time blocks for individual tasks or related groups.
Be realistic about task durations to avoid stress and frustration.
Stay flexible and adjust your schedule as needed.
Additional Tips:
🖥️ Track task durations with a time tracking tool.
I use Google Calendar. You can also use Toggl for more specific time tracking.
🤸🏻♀️ Take regular breaks to stay focused and avoid burnout.
Get those steps in and do a quick stretch routine.
📱 Use a to-do list app for task and time block management.
I use Notion. You can use your favorite to-do list app or just pen and paper.
📖 2. 20 Things That Will Make You More Productive
Check out this post with 20 excellent tips on productivity.
Here are my 3 favorites:
Record all your thoughts and ideas
Keep away clutter
Create routines
🏗️ 3. Create Personal SOPs
SOP stands for Standard Operating Procedures.
Simply put, these are written notes that you can refer back to that tell you how to do something.
Companies use them all the time as guidelines that help them carry out tasks efficiently and consistently.
Doing this in your personal life is just as beneficial.
If you find yourself Googling how to do something every 6 months or so then it’s time to write it down in your own words.
This is all about helping your future self. Recording SOPs does that in three ways.
🗂️ You will know exactly where to find that information (in your SOPs note).
✍️ The steps will be explained in a way that makes sense to you (since you wrote it).
👨💻 The SOP will only have the relevant information (you won’t be scanning a random article for the one sentence that will actually help you).
This note is a slow build over time. Here are some examples of my SOPs:
☕ How to descale my coffee machine
🪢 How to tie a useful knot
🧘♂️ Stretching routine
🚙 How to buy a car
🎥 Standard interview setup
Make a note for all of your SOPs.
Categorize them.
Thank yourself (and me) later.
That’s all for now! Have a great day. 👊🏼
David
