⚡️ Taskflow Tuesday: March 25, 2025
The system for closing out the day, a mindset shift, and a small change that made the biggest impact.
👋 Hello!
This is issue #46 of Taskflow Tuesday, where I share 3 things to help you get digitally organized so you can focus on what truly matters.
🛑 1. The “Work Shutdown” Routine That Lets You Actually Rest
Most people have a morning routine, but few have an end-of-workday routine.
If you don’t close out the day properly, your brain keeps running in the background. You sit at dinner thinking about that unfinished email. You’re watching a show but still stressing about what’s waiting for you tomorrow.
Here’s how to actually shut down so you’re not working mentally after you stop working physically:
✅ Tie up loose ends – Check your task manager and move unfinished tasks to tomorrow. If something’s lingering in your head, write it down.
✅ Clear your workspace – Close tabs, put away notebooks, reset your desk so it’s fresh for the next day.
✅ Decide your #1 priority for tomorrow – If you know what you’re starting with, you won’t waste the first 30 minutes figuring it out.
I like to make this a daily recurring task that lists the items I need to check off.
After this, work is over. No circling back to “just one more thing.” You’ll go into the evening mentally present and actually rested.
📖 2. The Identity Shift That Actually Creates Change
On page 30 of Atomic Habits, James Clear talks about identity resistance, and the reason why most people fail to stick to new habits.
People tend to focus on what they want to do instead of who they want to become. That’s why it’s easy to say, "I should wake up earlier," but it’s harder to say, "I am the type of person who wakes up early."
Your identity drives your actions.
Want to build better systems? Start seeing yourself as the kind of person who has clear, intentional workflows. Want to be more productive? Start believing you’re someone who follows through.
What kind of person do you want to become? Write that down and let your identity guide your daily actions.
Your systems should reinforce your identity - not fight against it.
⏰ 3. The Small Change That Made a Huge Impact on My Life
I used to rely on willpower every morning and night.
❌ Willpower to not scroll my phone before bed.
❌ Willpower to not check email the second I woke up.
❌ Willpower to avoid mindless distractions.
Then I removed the decision altogether.
I bought an analog alarm clock and left my phone in my office at night. No phone in the bedroom. No temptation to check notifications. No starting or ending my day staring at a screen.
The result?
✅ I actually read before bed.
✅ I wake up without a flood of notifications hijacking my thoughts.
✅ I start my mornings on my terms, not reacting to a screen.
It’s such a small shift, but it’s one of the best things I’ve done for my focus and peace of mind.
😁 Bonus
600 people liked this note about phone addiction. 🤯
