👋 Hello!
This is issue #52 of Taskflow Tuesday, where I share 3 things that can help you to get digitally organized so that you can spend more time on what truly matters.
🦃 1. Cold Turkey - My Favorite Website Blocker
Lately, I've noticed that after removing social apps from my phone, I've started getting pulled into algorithmic feeds on my laptop - especially YouTube and Substack. Without the usual mobile distractions, my attention has shifted to the desktop.
To counter this, I came across this YouTube video that introduced me to Cold Turkey, a distraction-blocking app. I've started using it, and it’s already made me way more productive.
What I really appreciate about Cold Turkey is its one time investment model. I’m so tired of every new app having a paid subscription for basic features. This one is $45 for life.
Here are some ways I’m using Cold Turkey.
📊 Customizable block lists: Tailor specific sets of websites or applications to block.
📴 Application blocking: Beyond websites, I can block desktop apps like messaging platforms.
⏳ Scheduled blocking: I’ve set blocks to activate during designated times that align aligning with my work schedule.
If you need a stricter way to stay laser focused, Cold Turkey is definitely worth considering.
🗓️ 2. A Weekly Planning System That Actually Works
Every productivity system promises clarity. Most fizzle out.
Weekly planning is supposed to give you clarity. Instead, for most people, it feels like homework they forgot to do. So they skip it, and spend the week stressed, unfocused, and reactive.
I've tried a dozen planning methods. Most didn’t stick. But here's the one I've consistently returned to, because it actually works, it’s simple, and I genuinely enjoy it.
⏳ My Weekly Planning Routine (15–30 mins)
Core Values Check-in
Quickly reflect: did last week align with what matters most?
Marriage Review
How connected did Abby and I feel? What's one small thing to improve this week?
Quarterly Goals Check-in
Are my current projects moving the needle on my quarterly goals?
Weekly Reflection (Quick)
What went well? What didn't? What's one small adjustment I can make?
Next Week Schedule Sync
Schedule key tasks, appointments, and buffer time for flexibility.
Schedule Non-negotiables
Protect time for rest, workouts, reading, friends, and family.
Review Task List
Tidy up tasks. Remove or delegate anything that aren’t important anymore.
Quick Budget Check-in
A brief financial snapshot—did spending align with priorities?
This isn't a rigid system - you can adapt, reorder, or simplify based on your current needs. Imagine the momentum you could build by regularly and intentionally reflecting on what truly matters in your life.
Give it a try this week, and let me know how it goes!
✍🏼 3. My (New) Favorite Pens
Sounds small, but finding a pen you love writing with is huge.
For me, it’s the Zebra Sarasa Clip 0.5mm - smooth, consistent, and doesn’t smear.
It’s like a Muji Pen, but with a better grip.
