Hey there! I really appreciate you sharing this. You’re not alone. So many of us struggle with this exact thing. We set big goals, then we falling short and feel defeated.
Here are a few things I've learned over the years that have helped me out a ton - and I hope they help you too.
1. Lower the goal but raise the standard.
Instead of “write for 2 hours every day,” try “open my writing app at 9am and write 1 sentence.” You can always do more, but you won’t always feel like starting. The real win is consistency.
2. Redefine success as follow-through.
If your goal was “go on a run” and you laced up your shoes and got out the door, that’s a win! The act of showing up builds confidence more than reaching some huge benchmark.
3. Build your system around who you want to become.
If you want to be someone who follows through, make tiny actions that reinforce that identity every single day.
All of this stuff is right from the book Atomic Habits. I would highly encourage you to read it if you haven't.
Big goals aren’t the enemy, but unrealistic expectations paired with zero systems will always leave you feeling like you failed.
